Program details
Overview
Musique (préuniversitaire) is a pre-university DEC offering two streams, classical or jazz, in which students develop skills in performance, composition, arrangement, music technology, or research depending on their interests. Facilities are housed in a pavilion dedicated entirely to music, including two music-technology labs equipped with iMac workstations and industry software such as Logic and Sibelius, two recording studios with a live room and control room, soundproof rooms for individual and ensemble practice, and a concert hall with a grand piano that opens onto outdoor green space for open-air performances. The program's library holds close to 1,000 specialized books and more than 4,500 scores. Students take part in master classes led by visiting artists and specialists intended to prepare them for Bachelor-level music-program auditions, along with varied on- and off-campus performance opportunities, and some students can pursue a study trip to Cuba focused on international percussion traditions. The program can also be combined as a three-year Double DEC with Sciences de la nature, Sciences humaines, Arts, lettres et communication, or Arts visuels. It suits students aiming to continue to university-level music study in either the classical or jazz tradition.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Musique's own admissions page states no secondary course prerequisite beyond the college's general secondary-diploma requirement, but makes admission conditional on a live audition: only candidates whose files are accepted are convoked to an audition held around mid-March, and admission depends on passing it. The college provides a preparatory audition workbook, training videos and a free online course to help candidates prepare. Applicants qualify with a Diplôme d'études secondaires (DES) from the youth or adult sector, or a Diplôme d'études professionnelles (DEP) plus passes in fifth-secondary language of instruction, fifth-secondary second language and fourth-secondary mathematics, or training the Cégep judges equivalent. No distinct English- or French-language test score is set; language ability is covered by those fifth-secondary language courses. Candidates must also meet the Ministry's program-specific admission conditions, the Cégep's own admission policy and Règlement no. 12 on academic success.
Application Details
Start Date:September
Application Deadline:Domestic applicants apply through the Service régional d'admission du Montréal métropolitain (SRAM): Cégep Marie-Victorin's own admission page references 'session automne 2027' deposits handled directly on admission.sram.qc.ca, where the equal-consideration date is 1 March 2027 for Fall 2027 entry and 1 November 2026 for Winter 2027 entry (applications opening 15 September 2026), with later rounds in late April, late May and late November respectively while seats remain. International applicants apply through the same SRAM portal: the college's own international page fixes a Fall closing date of 14 March, i.e. 14 March 2027 for Fall 2027 entry, and advises applying as early as possible because of immigration-processing timelines; no winter international deadline is published. Admission is rolling round to round until seats fill, but the international date is firm. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
