Program details
Overview
Option cinéma is a track within the Arts, lettres et communication program covering film creation across its full production process, from scriptwriting and artistic direction to cinematography, editing, and production. Students work on fiction shorts, documentaries, and experimental films, exploring different facets of filmmaking as they develop projects that reflect their own creative interests. The program includes on-set production experience and opportunities to meet and exchange with working filmmakers and other film professionals. Specialized facilities include a dedicated screening room, digital and video editing suites, a sound studio, and multimedia classrooms; film-analysis coursework introduces students to close critical viewing of cinema. Graduating students complete a final production that is presented to a public audience and jury as part of a gala screening student films in a well-regarded Montreal cinema. Students in this option may also pursue a Double DEC combining cinema studies with Musique, in either its classical or jazz stream. It suits students who want a comprehensive, hands-on introduction to filmmaking across creative and technical roles.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Option Cinéma's admissions page states no course prerequisite beyond the college's general secondary-diploma requirement. Applicants qualify with a Diplôme d'études secondaires (DES) from the youth or adult sector, or a Diplôme d'études professionnelles (DEP) plus passes in fifth-secondary language of instruction, fifth-secondary second language and fourth-secondary mathematics, or training the Cégep judges equivalent. No distinct English- or French-language test score is set; language ability is covered by those fifth-secondary language courses. Candidates must also meet the Ministry's program-specific admission conditions, the Cégep's own admission policy and Règlement no. 12 on academic success. The page does not mention a portfolio or interview requirement for this option. Candidates apply for this programme through the Service régional d'admission du Montréal métropolitain (SRAM), which lists the required application documents.
Application Details
Start Date:September
Application Deadline:Domestic applicants apply through the Service régional d'admission du Montréal métropolitain (SRAM): Cégep Marie-Victorin's own admission page references 'session automne 2027' deposits handled directly on admission.sram.qc.ca, where the equal-consideration date is 1 March 2027 for Fall 2027 entry and 1 November 2026 for Winter 2027 entry (applications opening 15 September 2026), with later rounds in late April, late May and late November respectively while seats remain. International applicants apply through the same SRAM portal: the college's own international page fixes a Fall closing date of 14 March, i.e. 14 March 2027 for Fall 2027 entry, and advises applying as early as possible because of immigration-processing timelines; no winter international deadline is published. Admission is rolling round to round until seats fill, but the international date is firm. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
