Overview
This Double DEC combines the cinema option of Arts, lettres et communication with the Musique program, letting students pursue serious filmmaking training alongside musical study over three years and graduate with two diplomas. The cinema side covers the full filmmaking process, including scriptwriting, artistic direction, cinematography, editing, and production of fiction shorts, documentaries, and experimental film, with access to a screening room, editing suites, a sound studio, and multimedia classrooms, plus on-set production experience and opportunities to meet working filmmakers. Graduating cinema students present a final production to a public audience and jury at a gala screening in a Montreal cinema. The music side lets students choose a classical or jazz stream and develop performance, composition, arrangement, or technology-related skills, supported by music-technology labs, recording studios, and a concert hall. As with the college's other Double DEC programs, students combining these two fields receive additional pedagogical support given the heavier combined workload. It suits students who want to pursue serious filmmaking training together with continued musical study.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: This double-DEC pairs Arts, lettres et communication with Musique. The college's double-DEC admissions page sets no extra secondary course for the Arts, lettres et communication half beyond the general requirement; the Musique half also carries no course prerequisite but makes admission conditional on a live audition held around mid-March, for which a preparatory workbook is provided. Applicants qualify with a Diplôme d'études secondaires (DES) from the youth or adult sector, or a Diplôme d'études professionnelles (DEP) plus passes in fifth-secondary language of instruction, fifth-secondary second language and fourth-secondary mathematics, or training the Cégep judges equivalent. No distinct English- or French-language test score is set; language ability is covered by those fifth-secondary language courses. Candidates must also meet the Ministry's program-specific admission conditions, the Cégep's own admission policy and Règlement no. 12 on academic success.
