Overview
Techniques de l'informatique at Cégep Marie-Victorin is a technical DEC focused on the programming of connected objects (the Internet of Things). Students work through the full lifecycle of a connected-device project, from creative concept and casing design to sensor selection and application-logic coding, along with data collection from the finished device; access to 3D printers lets students produce a finished, presentable physical product. The broader curriculum also covers application development, computer systems management, network design, complex problem-solving, and an introduction to ethical hacking and cybersecurity concepts. Students train in newly equipped, fully technology-oriented computer labs, and have access to a creative lab called the Médialab, which provides virtual-reality headsets, 3D printers, and a laser cutter for experimentation. The program offers students the chance to take part in a hackathon competition and to complete a workplace-integration internship (stage) during the sixth and final session. It suits students interested in programming, connected devices, and applied information-technology skills spanning both software and hardware.

Admission Requirements: Techniques de l'informatique's admissions page adds one course prerequisite to the college's general secondary-diploma requirement: CST 5e secondaire, TS 4e secondaire, SN 4e secondaire, or Mathématiques 436. Applicants qualify with a Diplôme d'études secondaires (DES) from the youth or adult sector, or a Diplôme d'études professionnelles (DEP) plus passes in fifth-secondary language of instruction, fifth-secondary second language and fourth-secondary mathematics, or training the Cégep judges equivalent. No distinct English- or French-language test score is set; language ability is covered by those fifth-secondary language courses. Candidates must also meet the Ministry's program-specific admission conditions, the Cégep's own admission policy and Règlement no. 12 on academic success.
