Overview
Éducation spécialisée is a technical DEC preparing students to intervene with people of all ages who face, or are at risk of, adaptation difficulties linked to emotional, social, physical, or intellectual challenges, through prevention, intervention, and accompaniment. Teaching staff are described as building a personalized, supportive learning environment that accounts for each student's pace, needs, and personal and professional interests. The department brings together classrooms, staff offices, and dedicated student space in one setting, and a first-year peer-tutoring program supports students' integration into the program. Two admission pathways exist: one for students coming directly from secondary school and another for students who have already completed college studies or are returning to study after time away. Students complete four distinct internships (stages) across different settings over the course of the program, exposing them to a range of possible career paths in the field, and some students have the opportunity to complete a credited international study period or internship. It suits students drawn to social-services or helping-profession careers involving direct, ongoing intervention with vulnerable individuals.

Applicants qualify with a Diplôme d'études secondaires (DES) from the youth or adult sector, or a Diplôme d'études professionnelles (DEP) plus passes in fifth-secondary language of instruction, fifth-secondary second language and fourth-secondary mathematics, or training the Cégep judges equivalent.
