Program details

Overview

Soins infirmiers (180.A0) is a six-term technical program at Collège de Maisonneuve leading to a Diploma of Collegial Studies (DEC) in nursing. It prepares students to assess a patient's health status, establish and carry out care and treatment plans, prevent illness, and provide palliative care to adult patients across the lifespan, from newborns to older adults. Training combines coursework based on real and simulated clinical cases with practice in laboratories equipped with programmable, computer-controlled manikins that can respond to administered medication, under instructor supervision, as well as an on-site health clinic where students practise techniques such as prenatal class facilitation, blood draws, and vaccination. Clinical placements occur every term in a range of Montreal-area health-care settings, covering specialties such as medicine and surgery, psychiatry, pediatrics, perinatal care, ambulatory and emergency care, and health promotion. During their studies, students may work as patient attendants after their first year and as nursing externs after their second year. Graduates can pursue university pathways, including DEC-BAC agreements in nursing science with several Quebec universities. The program suits students seeking a hands-on, clinically intensive route into nursing practice across hospital, community, and long-term-care settings.
