College of the North Atlantic's Pharmacy Technician program is a two-year diploma delivered on campus at the Prince Philip Drive campus, training students to work in hospital, community, and pharmaceutical manufacturing settings. Coursework across six semesters covers prescription interpretation and processing, pharmacology, pharmacy calculations, and non-sterile and sterile compounding, alongside professional practice and ethics. Technical training builds proficiency with pharmacy computer systems, custom medicine compounding, product distribution and labelling, drug inventory management, injection technique, and preparing intravenous medicines for critically ill patients. The final two semesters include two six-week clinical placements at approved hospital and community pharmacy sites, alongside classroom training delivered through CNA, regional Health Authorities, and community pharmacies. Students must complete Standard or Intermediate First Aid, CPR (Level C), and mask fit testing before clinical placement. Graduates are eligible to write the Pharmacy Examining Board of Canada national certification exam and register with the College of Pharmacy of Newfoundland and Labrador, finding work in hospitals, community pharmacies, and pharmaceutical manufacturing.
