Program details

Overview

This apprenticeship is designed for early childhood educators already working in the field who want to build a formal credential while continuing to work. It leads to an Ontario College Certificate in Early Childhood Education (program code CDP1). Instruction is delivered in a blended format combining synchronous online evening classes with independent learning, allowing apprentices to study part-time around their job. As an apprenticeship, the program is administered through Skilled Trades Ontario rather than the standard college application process, and candidates must already be employed with a sponsor before registering. On completion of the in-school component, graduates must complete a Bridge Program and earn an Early Childhood Education Diploma to become eligible for registration with the College of Early Childhood Educators. The program is offered at Fanshawe College in London, Ontario, and enrollment depends on a sponsor/employer relationship being in place before a registered training agreement is signed.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Applicants must first secure a sponsor/employer in the child development/early childhood education trade, then complete a registered training agreement through Skilled Trades Ontario. This is an apprenticeship program and cannot be applied to through ontariocolleges.ca; registration is arranged directly through Skilled Trades Ontario once a sponsoring employer is in place.
