This 30-credit, 10-course undergraduate certificate in personal financial planning at HEC Montréal teaches an integrated approach to personal financial planning, building on foundation courses in accounting and quantitative methods. Topics include retirement and annuity calculations, estate planning, insurance analysis, financial products and portfolio management, and the legal and tax aspects of financial planning. Completion of the certificate, together with the requirements set by the Institut québécois de planification financière (IQPF), can lead to the professional financial planner (planificateur financier) designation, and graduates can pursue roles such as investment advisor, financial security advisor, banking financial advisor, or financial planner. Instruction is in French, delivered through a mix of in-person and hybrid formats, mainly evenings and weekends, and can be completed full-time or part-time, though the certificate is designed primarily for part-time study.
