Trades - Apprenticeship in Plumber Apprenticeship

The Plumber Apprenticeship is a four-year Red Seal trade program combining on-campus instruction with workplace training. Apprentices complete eight to twelve weeks of classroom training at Lethbridge Polytechnic each year, spending roughly 80 percent of the program learning on the job with skilled plumbers. Coursework covers pipe systems, fixtures, and gas-fitting principles across the four levels of training. Delivery is face-to-face on campus, with some blended and hyflex components. Applications are submitted through Alberta's MyTradesecrets apprenticeship portal, and apprentices must be registered with an employer to progress through the program. On completing all four years and passing the required interprovincial examinations, graduates receive two Alberta Journeyperson certificates: Plumber, and Gasfitter - Class B. The dual certification qualifies graduates to work in both plumbing and gasfitting trades. The program is not open to international students, since it requires concurrent employment with an Alberta-registered training employer throughout its four years.
