Trades - Apprenticeship in Carpenter Apprenticeship

This four-year apprenticeship trains students in construction skills including formwork setup, framing, stair construction, finishing work, blueprint reading, material preparation, and quality checking. Training combines on-the-job work experience with an employer and annual technical training at the college, requiring a minimum of 1,560 hours of on-the-job training and eight weeks of technical training each year across three to four years of attendance. Small class sizes allow individualized instruction time in both classroom and shop settings. Admission requires first securing employment with an employer willing to sponsor the apprenticeship, then completing an Apprenticeship Application and Contract through Alberta's Apprenticeship and Industry Training system. Graduates receive a Journeyperson Certificate and are qualified to work as carpenters in residential, commercial, and industrial construction.
