The Kinesiology program, offered through McGill's Faculty of Education (Department of Kinesiology and Physical Education), studies human movement, also referred to as exercise or sport science. The Bachelor of Science program covers anatomy, ergonomics, physiology, exercise psychology, health and nutrition, and adapted physical activity, combining theoretical coursework with practical training. Students complete internship placements beginning as early as second year. After finishing two years of the B.Sc., students with strong academic standing and research interest may apply to the Honours stream, which includes advanced coursework and a supervised research project in the final year. Courses are based primarily in the McGill Sports Complex (Currie Gymnasium Building), which includes teaching laboratories and fitness equipment for coursework and research. Graduates pursue careers in athletics, rehabilitation, and recreation, working in hospitals, rehabilitation centres, fitness facilities, clinics, and sports organizations, or continue to further study in fields including physical and health education, medicine, and occupational therapy.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Applicants apply through the Faculty of Education and select the B.Sc. Kinesiology program on the online application. Quebec CEGEP applicants need English 603 (or French 601 from a French CEGEP), plus Biology I and II, Chemistry I and II, Math I and II, and Physics I, II and III from a previous DEC, or the equivalent New Science or Arts & Science DEC courses. Applicants presenting all prerequisites generally have an advantage, but a minimum of four prerequisites — Math I and II plus any two science prerequisites — is still considered, with missing courses added onto the McGill program. Applicants completing the Sciences, lettres et arts DEC are eligible without prerequisite penalty, though missing coursework is completed at McGill. For September 2026 entry, McGill sets a minimum overall R-Score of 29.5, a minimum core math/science R-Score of 29.5, and a minimum core English-or-French R-Score of 26.0.
