Trades - Apprenticeship in Gasfitter Apprenticeship

The Gasfitter Apprenticeship at Northwestern Polytechnic prepares registered apprentices to repair and extend gas mains, install and repair gas pipes and fittings, install and service propane equipment, and repair and service residential, commercial, and industrial gas appliances. Working toward Gasfitter Class A certification, which permits work on appliances rated above 400,000 BTU, apprentices combine employer-sponsored on-the-job training with in-class technical instruction delivered on campus in Grande Prairie. The first technical training period, Gasfitter Common, runs eight weeks of classroom instruction. As with other Alberta trades, apprentices alternate periods of paid workplace employment with blocks of technical training until all required periods and on-the-job hours are complete, at which point they can pursue journeyperson Gasfitter certification through Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training.
