Coursework covers interpreting building plans, locating pipe positions, cutting openings through walls and floors, selecting appropriate pipe types and sizes, and performing soldering, cementing, threading, and pressure-testing work. The program combines employer-sponsored on-the-job training with blocks of in-class technical instruction delivered on campus in Grande Prairie, each running eight weeks. Apprentices alternate periods of paid workplace employment with classroom instruction, progressing through the required technical periods and on-the-job hours before qualifying for Alberta's Plumber journeyperson certification through Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training.
