Overview
This certificate prepares students to work alongside teachers in the classroom. Coursework covers child development, learning strategies, interpersonal skills and professionalism, combined with a practicum arranged in a school of the student's choice. The programme is delivered fully online, with live, instructor-led classes held two evenings a week, Monday and Tuesday. Admission requires a Criminal Record Check with a Vulnerable Sector Check, and applicants who do not meet the standard academic requirements can access placement testing. On completion, graduates qualify for Level 1 Early Childhood Educator Certification through Child Care Staff Certification, Government of Alberta, and up to 30 block credits transfer toward Athabasca University's Bachelor of Professional Arts programme. The programme uses a rolling-intake model with five start dates spread across the academic year, letting students begin once they meet the prerequisites.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Applicants need High School transcripts showing English Language Arts 30-1 at 55% or English Language Arts 30-2 at 60%, and Math 10-3.
