Overview
The Master of Earth and Energy Resources Leadership (MEERL) is an online, part-time professional master's degree offered through the Department of Geological Sciences and Geological Engineering, designed for working professionals in the mining, energy, and sustainability sectors. The 20-month program combines online coursework with two in-person residential sessions, one in Kingston, Ontario and one in Calgary, Alberta, alongside an optional field-based elective course. Students complete ten courses covering the technical, social, environmental, economic, legal, and business dimensions of natural resource development, including resource life cycle analysis, strategic leadership, economics, law, policy and regulation, communications, and a sector-focused capstone project. The curriculum is delivered by faculty from multiple disciplines together with industry adjunct instructors, guest lecturers, and project advisors drawn from the mining and energy sectors. Graduates gain interdisciplinary leadership skills applicable to technical, policy, and management roles across the natural resource industry.
