Overview
The Department of Political Studies at Queen's University offers MA and PhD programs across five major fields: Canadian Politics, Comparative Politics, International Relations, Political Theory, and Gender and Politics, and is one of a small number of Canadian political science departments offering a dedicated Gender and Politics field at the doctoral level. Admission to the MA program requires an honours undergraduate degree in political science or an equivalent field, with a minimum B+ average; applications are accepted for the September intake only and are not considered for part-time study. Applicants must submit two academic references, transcripts, a writing sample of approximately 15-20 pages, and a statement of research interests of about 200 words. The department also runs a collaborative MA in Political and Legal Thought with Philosophy and Law. Graduate students receive office space and a competitive financial support package, and can access funding to attend the Consortium for Qualitative Research Methods summer training school and the UQAM Summer Institute. Graduates have gone on to government, non-government organizations, firms, and universities in Canada and abroad.
