Red River College Polytechnic's Rehabilitation Assistant certificate equips students with the knowledge and skills to provide safe, competent rehabilitative care under the supervision of speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, and physical therapists. The curriculum uses simulated rehabilitation scenarios to build client-safety and communication skills, and hands-on practicum rotations place students in real-world care settings. The program runs full-time over 12 months at the South Winnipeg Campus (Pembina Highway) with a September intake. Applicants with a criminal record or listed on the Child Abuse Registry or Adult Abuse Registry are not able to complete the program. Graduates are prepared to work as rehabilitation assistants supporting allied health professionals in hospitals, clinics, and community care settings, and the program leads to a certificate credential.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Applicants must provide proof of graduation from or enrolment in Grade 12, including Grade 12 English (40S), Grade 12 Math (40S), and Grade 11 Biology (30S) or Grade 12 Biology (40S), plus a completed Applicant Declaration for Check Documents Form. Mature applicants aged 19 or older who have been out of high school for at least one year may qualify with Grade 12 English (40S), Grade 10 Math (20S), and Grade 11 Biology (30S) or Grade 12 Biology (40S). All applicants must meet English language requirements by completing three years of full-time secondary education in Canada, the United States, or an ELR-exempt country where English was the language of instruction, or by meeting an approved English language assessment option. Criminal record, adult abuse registry, and child abuse registry checks, along with required immunizations, must be completed before the practicum placement.
