Overview

Digital Media Design – Video and Motion Graphics is a one-year diploma that teaches motion graphic design and animation, covering visual storytelling and the technical side of video production, including shooting, lighting, editing, audio, colour correction, and compositing. The program prepares graduates for roles such as motion graphic designer, animator, documentary and narrative filmmaker, compositor, editor, and camera operator. Admission requires prior completion of Red River College Polytechnic's one-year Digital Media Design certificate, or an equivalent program, with priority given to the college's own certificate graduates. Near the end of the program, students complete a three-week industry work placement, working full-time in a professional setting. The program is delivered full-time and on campus at the Exchange District Campus in Winnipeg, and students are required to supply their own laptop that meets program specifications. Graduates are prepared to enter video and motion-graphics roles across production studios, agencies, and broadcast and media companies.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Applicants must have graduated from, or be enrolled in the final year of, a post-secondary Digital Media Design program (or equivalent); if enrolled, official final grades showing successful completion are due by July 15 for fall entry or by the deadline in the admission letter, and post-secondary transcripts must be issued within six months of the application date. English language requirements are met by three years of full-time high school education in Canada, the United States, or an ELR-exempt country in English, by an approved English language assessment, or by transcripts submitted for review if educated in English without high school graduation. Admission is prioritized first for current Red River College Polytechnic Digital Media Design students, then for Manitoba residents who are Canadian citizens or landed immigrants, and then for all other applicants.
