Overview
The Pharmacy Technician Diploma prepares students to work alongside pharmacists and other healthcare professionals across community, hospital, and other pharmacy practice settings. The curriculum aligns with Canadian Council for Accreditation of Pharmacy Programs (CCAPP) standards and reflects current pharmacy practice and regulatory requirements set by the National Association of Pharmacy Regulatory Authorities (NAPRA). The program's CCAPP accreditation, awarded through January 2023 to June 2028, transferred to Red River College Polytechnic following the closure of the Manitoba Institute of Trades and Technology (MITT), where the program originated. Students complete two years of full-time study at the South Winnipeg Campus, covering pharmacy operations, medication preparation, dispensing procedures, and inventory and technical support duties performed under pharmacist supervision. Graduates are prepared to pursue provincial licensure as pharmacy technicians and to work in retail, hospital, and other clinical pharmacy environments across Manitoba.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Admission requires proof of graduation from, or current enrolment in, Grade 12 with a minimum grade of 60% in Grade 12 English (40S), Math (40S), Biology (40S), and Chemistry (40S). Applicants who completed at least three years of full-time secondary education in Canada, the United States, or another English Language Requirement (ELR) exempt country where English was the language of instruction meet the English requirement directly; others must hold a Canadian undergraduate degree taught in English or meet the National Association of Pharmacy Regulatory Authorities (NAPRA) language-test standard for licensure. A completed Applicant Declaration for Check Documents form is required, along with an Adult Criminal Record Check including Vulnerable Sector Search, provincial abuse registry checks, and proof of required healthcare program immunizations; a criminal record may prevent completion of the program's clinical placements. Required documentation must be submitted within 15 days of applying, or within 5 days if applying within six weeks of the program start date.
