Program details

Overview

Power Engineering Technology (3rd Class) is a one-year laddered diploma for students who already hold a Power Engineering 4th Class certificate or licence. The program builds on that foundation with further theoretical and practical study of boiler systems, refrigeration systems, heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment, and other industrial process components. Instruction combines classroom theory with hands-on training in the operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of power engineering plant equipment. Delivered full-time at the Notre Dame Campus in Winnipeg with an August intake, the program prepares graduates to challenge the Province of Manitoba's Third Class power engineering licensing examinations. Completion supports career progression for power engineers working in facilities, manufacturing, and industrial plants across Manitoba that operate boiler and refrigeration systems requiring higher-class certification.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Admission requires proof of successful completion of, or current enrolment in, a Power Engineering Technology 4th Class certificate program, or an Interprovincial Power Engineering 4th Class licence; applicants still enrolled must submit official final grades by July 15 for fall enrolment or by the deadline stated in their admission letter. Applicants who completed at least three years of full-time secondary education in Canada, the United States, or another English Language Requirement (ELR) exempt country where English was the language of instruction meet the English requirement by submitting transcripts for review; others must meet an approved English language assessment option at the program-specific level. International credentials from the United States or an ELR-exempt country require an International Credentials Assessment Fee before transcript review. Required documentation must be submitted within 15 days of applying, or within 5 days if applying within six weeks of the program start date.
