The Pre-Employment Heavy Equipment Technician certificate program prepares students for entry into the transport and heavy equipment industry. Over 15 weeks, students learn safety practices and proper use of industry-standard tools, and gain entry-level proficiency in hydraulics, pneumatic braking systems, electrical circuits, mechanical systems and suspension systems, combining hands-on shop work with theory instruction. The program aligns with the first period of Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training's Heavy Equipment Technician curriculum, and graduates are eligible to register as apprentices and challenge the first-period exam; some also receive course credit toward SAIT's two-year Transport and Heavy Equipment Technology diploma. Graduates typically pursue entry-level roles such as heavy-duty mechanic (off-road), truck and transport mechanic or transport-trailer technician. Delivery is in person at SAIT's Main Campus. The program does not accept international applicants.
