Overview
The Pre-employment Motorcycle Mechanic certificate program provides foundational training in the assembly, maintenance, repair and restoration of motorcycles and multi-wheeled lightweight all-terrain vehicles. Over 12 weeks, coursework combines theory with hands-on shop learning covering lubrication and cooling systems, electrical and ignition systems, carburetion and fuel systems, adjustment of moving parts, and safety protocols. The program was developed with industry input and is intended for applicants with no prior mechanical knowledge or training. Graduates gain the technical knowledge and skills to work as a motorcycle mechanic apprentice, and are eligible to register as apprentices and challenge the first-period exam under Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training's Motorcycle Mechanic curriculum. Delivery is in person at SAIT's Main Campus. The program does not accept international applicants.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Applicants must demonstrate English language proficiency and complete the following courses or equivalents: at least 50% in English Arts 20-1 or 20-2; at least 50% in Math 20-1 or 20-2, or 60% in Math 20-3; and at least 50% in one Grade 11 Science. SAIT accepts equivalent high school courses for applicants educated outside Alberta. Applicants educated outside Canada must demonstrate English language proficiency and provide an international document assessment confirming they meet the program's admission requirements.
