Overview
The Pre-employment Industrial Mechanic (Millwright) certificate program is an intensive 12-week course covering the foundational material of the first period of a millwright apprenticeship. Students learn machining, machine assembly, blueprint reading, rigging and hoisting, machine alignment, drive systems and the use of precision measurement and testing equipment, alongside practical training to install, troubleshoot, repair and maintain industrial machinery. The program aligns with the first period of Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training's Industrial Mechanic (Millwright) curriculum, and graduates are eligible to register as apprentices and challenge the first-period exam. Graduates find employment across sectors including oil and gas, construction, manufacturing, materials handling and specialized areas such as ski lift maintenance. Delivery is in person at SAIT's Main Campus. The program does not accept international applicants.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Applicants educated in Canada must demonstrate English language proficiency and complete the following courses or equivalents: Math 20-1, 20-2 or 20-3, English Language Arts 20-1 or 20-2, and Science 10. SAIT accepts equivalent high school courses for applicants educated outside Alberta. Applicants educated outside Canada must demonstrate English language proficiency and provide an international document assessment confirming they meet the program's admission requirements.
