The Pre-Employment Machinist certificate program combines hands-on shop experience with theoretical instruction over 15 weeks. Students receive training in standard safety protocols, the mathematical concepts used in precision machining, operation of computer numerical control (CNC) machines, and use of lathes, drill presses and milling and grinding equipment for cutting, sanding, drilling, facing and turning metal components. The program addresses skill needs across manufacturing, transportation, energy and healthcare sectors that rely on precision-machined parts. Graduates are eligible to register as apprentices and challenge the first-period exam under Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training's Machinist curriculum, and also receive course credit for the first semester of SAIT's Machinist Technology diploma. Delivery is in person at SAIT's Main Campus. The program does not accept international applicants.
