Critical Care Nursing is an 18-week Advanced Certificate at Saskatchewan Polytechnic for practicing registered nurses, delivered through a blend of distance education with on-campus labs at Prince Albert, Regina, or Saskatoon and clinical practicum placements completed in Saskatchewan. The curriculum builds on existing nursing knowledge through critical care concepts such as patient- and family-centred care and infection control, critical care anatomy and physiology, assessment and diagnosis, disorders and their management, multi-system dysfunction, and long-term patient outcomes. The program starts in February and August. Admission requires active licensure with the College of Registered Nurses of Saskatchewan, which also satisfies the English language requirement, along with current CPR certification, immunizations, TLR certification, and N95 fit testing before the clinical component, plus a Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Search. Applicants to the January intake without recent Saskatchewan Health Authority orientation or 1,800 practice hours in acute, surgical, or emergency units within two years must first complete NURS 1726.
