Overview
This advanced certificate prepares registered nurses for surgical care roles as scrub and circulating nurses in operating rooms and ambulatory surgery centres. The program teaches the nursing process, principles and practice of aseptic technique, and technical skills required within a surgical environment, using virtual-reality surgical videos, 360-degree instrument imagery, and digital skill tracking. Full-time study runs 33 weeks, structured as online theory, a one-week on-site skills lab, and 10 weeks of clinical practice (four weeks instructor-led followed by six weeks preceptored); a part-time option completes the same content over three years. Clinical placements are based primarily in Regina and Saskatoon, with additional sites in Lloydminster, Moose Jaw, North Battleford, Prince Albert, and Swift Current. Graduates are eligible to write the Canadian Nurses Association's perioperative certification exam for the CPN(c) designation, and the program carries transfer-credit recognition with the University of Saskatchewan. Intakes run in August, October, and January.

Admission Requirements: Admission requires current licensure with the registered nurses' licensing body in the province where clinical practice will occur; the English Language Requirement is considered met as evidenced through this licensure.
