Overview
The Registered Nursing Bridging Program for Re-entry to Practice is a certificate program for Registered Nurses previously licensed in Canada who want to return to practice, delivered online and distance-based by Saskatchewan Polytechnic's School of Nursing in Regina. The program runs 64 weeks across four 16-week semesters, with up to three years allowed to complete all courses, and combines nine online theory courses with simulation labs and onsite clinical practice education. Coursework covers health assessment and current issues and trends in professional nursing, maternal-newborn nursing, mental health nursing, pediatric, adult and gerontological nursing, community nursing perspectives, and pharmacology. Students build knowledge through coursework, develop practical skills through simulation labs, and gain clinical experience through practicums, with one-on-one faculty interaction throughout. On completion, graduates are eligible for re-licensure as a Registered Nurse with the College of Registered Nurses of Saskatchewan (CRNS) and can move into acute-care and regional hospitals, long-term care facilities, home-care settings, and other primary health-care roles, including administration, education or research.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Admission requires a recommendation letter from the College of Registered Nurses of Saskatchewan (CRNS), or from the regulatory body in the province where the applicant resides, recommending the candidate for the program. Before entering clinical practice, accepted applicants must provide valid Transferring, Lifting and Repositioning (TLR) certification, CPR Health Care Provider "C" AED certification, current immunization records, a Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Search, current N95 respirator mask testing, and 2015 WHMIS GHS certification (renewed every three years); these costs are the applicant's responsibility. Admission runs First Qualified/First Admitted, with applications opening September 1 each year for the September, January or May intake.
