The Psychiatric Nursing program is a 96-week Advanced Diploma at Saskatchewan Polytechnic, beginning with face-to-face theory and simulated labs in Year 1 at the Regina or Saskatoon campus, moving to virtual coursework with in-person labs and clinical placements in Year 2 at satellite sites across the province, and concluding with a four-month preceptored clinical practicum in Year 3. Students develop theoretical knowledge and clinical skills including IV initiation, catheter care, and wound management, preparing for registration as psychiatric nurses. The program admits students each September through a competitive process ranking applicants by academic average. Admission requires Grade 12 with 70% in 30-level English Language Arts, Foundations of Math 30 or Pre-Calculus 30, Biology 30, and Chemistry 30, and applicants must be at least 18 years old by December 31 of the admission year. Before clinical practice, students need current Standard First Aid and CPR certification, a Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Search, N95 fit testing, WHMIS, TLR, and Professional Assault Response Training certification.
