Overview
Transition to Registered Nursing in Canada is a 16-week advanced certificate program delivered by Saskatchewan Polytechnic in Regina as part of the Saskatchewan Health Authority's plan to address the province's nursing shortage. The hybrid program combines online theoretical learning with in-person lab sessions and clinical practicum experience, aligned with the entry-level competencies set by the College of Registered Nurses of Saskatchewan. Students learn about the Canadian health care system, study health assessment, health challenges, communication and care of the elderly, and cover Canadian medical technology, terminology and drug therapy, regulations, ethics, safety and cultural competency, along with the language and cultural issues internationally educated nurses may face. Clinical skills are assessed against the techniques and equipment used in Canada, and students take part in simulation labs and supervised clinical practice before preparing to write the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX). Applicants are referred to the program only once they hold a conditional employment offer arranged through the Saskatchewan Health Authority, making it a targeted, sponsored pathway into Registered Nurse employment in the province rather than an open-enrolment program.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Applicants require a referral through the Philippine Mission Recruitment Initiative (or equivalent), a National Bureau of Investigation Report (or equivalent), and either a referral letter from the College of Registered Nurses of Saskatchewan or from the Saskatchewan Health Authority. English language proficiency is demonstrated through a Saskatchewan Health Authority (or equivalent) English Language Proficiency Attestation combined with either IELTS (Speaking, Writing, Listening, Reading and Overall each 6.5) or CELBAN (Speaking 7, Writing 6, Listening 8, Reading 7), through at least two years of study at a recognized English-medium institution in the Philippines, or through a CRNS recommendation confirming English language proficiency. A referral letter from CRNS (or equivalent) is required before the lab and clinical component, along with valid TLR certification and CPR Health Care Provider "C" AED certification prior to the lab and clinical practice education.
