Program details
Overview
The advanced certificate develops professional practice grounded in a code of ethics, building interpersonal strengths such as listening actively, collaborating with others, staying self-aware and resolving conflict across varied roles. Coursework emphasises respect for cultural difference and multiple ways of knowing, an inclusive approach to practice, strategies for sustaining personal and professional wellness, and ongoing critical thinking and reflective practice. Course content satisfies the educational requirements for Special Needs Educator Certification through the BC ECE Registry.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Admission requires completion of an Early Childhood Care and Education certificate from an approved BC institution, with proof of ECCE registration or transcripts showing successful completion submitted as part of the application. Applicants must also meet Selkirk College's general standard of BC high-school graduation or equivalent, along with English 12 or equivalent at a minimum of 60%. No IELTS, TOEFL or other standardized language-test score is published on the program page. The program is delivered fully online over 3 terms and leads to an Advanced Certificate; intake is Fall only, and a minimum of 24 interested applicants is required for the college to run a given intake, so admission for Fall 2026 depends on reaching that threshold.
