Overview
The SOAR-9 Mentorship: Skills for Transition to Community Certificate of Completion is part of Selkirk College's Steps to Opportunities, Academics and Readiness (SOAR) initiative for adult learners with diverse needs. The certificate is built around two courses: Exploring Mentorship Skills 1, in which students work with an instructor-mentor to learn and experience the phases of mentorship while developing self-awareness, task initiation and problem-solving skills, and Portfolio Building 1, in which students create a document to track learning, reflections and resources for goal-setting, mentorship skills and lifelong learning. The programme is delivered on campus across Selkirk College's campuses, with a Fall intake only. It is intended for learners who benefit from structured mentorship and portfolio-based learning to support their transition into community participation.
