The Innovation and Entrepreneurship certificate is offered by the Beedie School of Business at Simon Fraser University as a complementary credential that any SFU student, in any faculty, can add alongside their primary degree. The certificate develops skills in creativity and adaptability, teamwork and collaboration, and communication and implementation, preparing students to navigate a changing employment landscape and to originate or contribute to new ventures and initiatives. Students complete an introductory course (BUS 238 or BUS 240), two core courses (BUS 314 and BUS 338), a capstone course, and two elective courses drawn from a defined list of subject areas across the applied sciences, arts and social sciences, business, and environment faculties. Coursework is offered at the Burnaby and Surrey campuses, with some courses available online. Because the certificate supplements an existing SFU degree rather than replacing it, students declare it while enrolled in their primary program rather than applying for separate admission.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: The certificate has no separate admission process; it may be declared by any currently enrolled SFU student, in any faculty, through the Beedie School of Business. Students must meet the prerequisites for each required course, including a minimum grade of C- in any course used as a prerequisite, and, because two of the core courses are upper-division business courses, a minimum overall SFU Business grade point average of 2.30 to enrol in them.
