Social Work at Trent University is a Bachelor of Social Work (Honours) program that prepares students for professional practice across a range of social work settings. The first two years introduce a range of contemporary themes connected to social work drawn from across disciplines and are open to any student who wants to declare a Social Work major. Admission to the professional years (years three and four) is competitive: students must apply, meet minimum academic requirements, and pay a separate application fee, with only a limited number of spaces available at the Peterborough and Durham GTA campuses. The professional years focus almost exclusively on social work theory and practice and include 700 hours of supervised field placement. The curriculum is grounded in social justice, human rights, and cultural humility, and is designed to build clinical knowledge, critical thinking, and social responsibility. The Honours degree requires 20.0 credits in total, including at least 11.5 credits in Social Work, and professional-year students normally complete their remaining requirements over two consecutive years.
