This 90-credit Bachelor of Science in Chemistry offers three streams: general, analytical chemistry, and materials chemistry, and prepares graduates for membership in the Ordre des chimistes du Québec. Coursework covers the mastery of chemical concepts, principles, and methods, atomic and molecular structure, and the prediction and interpretation of the properties and transformations of matter and their associated energy changes, along with product development, quality control, and the kinetics and mechanisms of chemical processes. Students in the analytical chemistry stream focus on modern instrumental analysis techniques and quality-control methods for organic and inorganic substance analysis, while those in the materials chemistry stream study the properties of metals, ceramics, biomaterials, and polymers at the molecular and nanometric scale. Across all streams, the program develops critical judgment, intellectual curiosity, and analytical and synthesis skills, along with the ability to use scientific literature and pursue continuing professional development. Full-time or part-time study is offered under a regular or co-op (stage-integrated) regime, with admission in the fall and winter terms on the Sherbrooke campus.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Admission requires meeting Université de Sherbrooke's general first-cycle admission requirements, plus one of: a DEC in Natural Sciences (200.B1); a DEC in Science, Literature and Art (700.A1); an International Baccalaureate diploma (200.Z1); a DEC combined with cell biology, general chemistry, chemistry of solutions, differential calculus, integral calculus, mechanics, electricity and magnetism, and waves and modern physics; or a technical DEC combined with general chemistry, chemistry of solutions, differential calculus, integral calculus, and two of the three listed physics courses. A reduced course load is possible under certain conditions for holders of a DEC in Laboratory Techniques.
