This program awards a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics through a 90-credit, full-time curriculum completed over three years at the University of Sherbrooke's main campus, with admission in the fall and winter terms under the general and statistics streams. Students choose among a general stream, a statistics stream, or an accelerated stream for those who already hold a bachelor's degree in secondary-school mathematics teaching. The core curriculum covers discrete mathematics, linear algebra, real and complex analysis, differential equations, probability, and mathematical and computational statistics, building toward optional upper-level courses in topology, number theory, numerical analysis, and mathematical modelling. The program can be completed under a regular study plan or a cooperative plan that alternates academic terms with paid work terms, subject to internship availability. It suits students seeking a solid theoretical grounding in mathematics with the option to specialize in statistics or to combine study with workplace experience.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Admission follows Universite de Sherbrooke's general first-cycle admission condition set out in the Reglement des etudes. Applicants qualify through a DEC in Sciences of Nature (200.B1), Sciences, Letters and Arts (700.A1), the International Baccalaureate (200.Z1), or Sciences Informatiques et Mathematiques (200.C1); alternatively, any DEC combined with differential calculus [0M02 or 0PU2], integral calculus [0M03 or 0PU3], and linear algebra and vector geometry [0M04 or 0PU4] also qualifies. The accelerated stream for secondary-school mathematics teachers requires an existing bachelor's degree in secondary education with a mathematics profile, or its equivalent. Students who have not already passed the ministry's Test de francais ecrit (TFE) or an equivalent recognized test must pass a placement test in their first term and succeed by the start of their second year. Co-op eligibility requires a cumulative average of at least 2.0 on a 4.3 scale at the end of the term preceding the internship. The page does not itself publish a French-language test score requirement for admission.
