This 120-credit Bachelor of Education program prepares teachers specializing in special education and social adaptation, leading to a teaching licence issued by Quebec's Ministry of Education. The regular pathway offers two training profiles addressing adapted pedagogical intervention for students with difficulties: one oriented toward elementary school and the other toward secondary school; a work-study (cheminement en emploi) pathway also offers both profiles. Coursework develops competencies in orthopedagogy and support teaching for at-risk students, and addresses behavioural disorders, disabilities, and pervasive developmental disorders. Students build skills in designing, delivering, and evaluating (formative, summative, and diagnostic) teaching and learning activities, master oral and written language appropriate to the teaching profession, and critically explore educational technologies. The program also covers collaboration within the learning community, reflective analysis of professional practice, and ethical, responsible conduct. Graduates must complete a request for authorization to teach, including a declaration regarding judicial background, to receive their teaching licence. The program admits in fall and winter terms, full-time or part-time, on the Sherbrooke campus or through distance education.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Admission requires meeting Université de Sherbrooke's general first-cycle admission requirements (per its Règlement des études). The work-study (cheminement en emploi) pathway further requires that applicants currently hold a teaching position in a Quebec school under a tolerance of engagement issued by the Ministère de l'Éducation, and have completed at least two distinct teaching contracts of a minimum of 500 hours each within the previous three years. All admitted students must demonstrate a strong command of French, either through an exemption or by reaching level C1 (a score of at least 500 out of 699) across all four language competencies (listening comprehension, reading comprehension, oral production, and written production) on a test recognized by the university.
