This Certificate in Modern Languages is a 30-credit, part-time undergraduate program offered at the Université de Sherbrooke's main Sherbrooke campus, with admission in the fall, winter and summer terms. It gives students training in at least two second or foreign languages alongside an understanding of the different cultures associated with them. Courses are organized into an English block, covering applied grammar, linguistics, composition, French-to-English translation, comparative stylistics, introductory literature, the origins of modern English, advanced writing and public speaking, and a multilingual block offering Spanish, German, Italian, Abenaki and other Indigenous languages of North America. Students choose courses across these blocks to build proficiency in the languages that interest them. It suits students seeking broad, part-time language training alongside another program of study or as preparation for language-related careers.
