Overview
This Bachelor of Applied Science in Computer Science at Université du Québec à Chicoutimi is delivered full-time or part-time, in person, on the Saguenay campus, with admission in fall and winter terms. The program builds broad foundations across computer science while students specialize in one of five areas: defensive cybersecurity, software development and quality, web, mobile, and cloud programming, applied artificial intelligence, or virtual reality and immersive environments. The curriculum follows a common core of required courses, concentration-specific courses, and a broader set of electives, and includes project-based, internship-style coursework. Students with strong academic standing can pursue an optional honours profile that adds graduate-level courses and research activities. The program suits students holding a college diploma in science, computer science, or mathematics, as well as career changers with relevant information-technology experience, preparing them either for entry into the technology workforce or for further graduate study.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Regular entry is via a Quebec DEC in Sciences de la nature (200.B1), Sciences, informatique et mathematique (200.C1), or Sciences, lettres et arts (700.A1), or any DEC meeting the required collegial objectives, with a minimum R-score of 25; candidates scoring 23-25 undergo a portfolio review requiring above-average results in at least 75% of relevant subjects. Every admission base must complete Calcul differentiel, Calcul integral, and Algebre lineaire et geometrie vectorielle before entry. Etudes-hors-Quebec applicants need a diploma showing basic science preparation after at least 13 years of schooling with a minimum average of 13/20 (11-13/20 reviewed individually); etudes-universitaires applicants need 15 completed university credits with a 2.6/4.3 cumulative average plus the same math courses; a preparation-suffisante route accepts two years of full-time relevant computing experience with a CV and motivation letter. Applicants whose mother tongue is not French must pass a French test recognised by UQAC (TFI, TCF or TEF at level B2/NCLC 8, or the DELF-B2 diploma) taken within the previous 24 months. The programme has no enrolment cap and admits in the autumn and winter terms.
