Program details

Overview

This bachelor's program in digital creation, based at Université du Québec en Abitibi-Témiscamingue's Rouyn-Noranda campus, gives students a broad foundation across digital media before they specialize in one of two areas: cinema and audiovisual media, which covers filmmaking, video production, and media arts, or experience design, which focuses on immersive and interactive technologies, digital art, and user-centered design of products and services. Across both paths, students work with industry-standard tools for design, production, distribution, and content management, and have access to specialized labs, including virtual reality and motion capture equipment. The program includes a culminating internship placement and, for eligible students, the possibility of a credited study period abroad. A DEC-BAC pathway is available for applicants with a relevant college diploma, granting some recognition of prior coursework toward the degree. The program suits students drawn to creative and technical work across film, interactive media, and digital design who want broad exposure to the field before focusing on a specific concentration, with graduates going on to roles such as director, editor, graphic designer, experience designer, or project manager in creative industries.

Requirements

Minimum GPA: 2.30 / 4.33
Admission Requirements: Standard entry is a Québec DEC or equivalent (candidates schooled outside Québec need the equivalent of at least 13 years of prior schooling); UQAT also admits on a university base (a minimum of 30 university credits with a cumulative average of at least 2.3/4.3) or on an experience base (age 21 or over, with at least two years of work in an art-related or digital-media-related field, attested by an employer letter, with knowledge assessed by interview when required and a portfolio sometimes requested). Graduates of the Multimedia Integration Techniques (TIM) college diploma awarded within the previous three years can have 15 to 30 credits recognised toward the Experience Design concentration after a file review. As UQAT's own admission page sets no separate language test for this programme, candidates must satisfy UQAT's institutional French-proficiency policy under every admission base.

Application Details

Start Date: September and January
Application Deadline: UQAT's admission page states only that online applications open each term - September for Fall, 1 March for Winter and June for Summer - without giving a closing date for any of its bachelor's programmes (Mining Engineering, Electromechanical Engineering, Digital/3D/Video Game Creation, Social Work). No separate international deadline, and no programme-specific deadline for engineering or digital-creation programmes, is published on the general admission, international-student, or engineering-school pages; UQAT directs both domestic and international applicants to contact the registrar or the relevant program office for exact timing. The university does not describe its admission as rolling in these terms, but no fixed closing date for the 2026-2027 cycle appears anywhere checked. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
