This graduate diploma (DESS) prepares holders of a bachelor's degree in mathematics who already hold an attested teaching position with a Quebec school service centre for full teaching certification (brevet d'enseignement) in secondary mathematics. The 30-credit program builds pedagogical and mathematics-didactics competencies aligned with the thirteen professional competencies of Quebec's teaching-profession framework, covering classroom management, assessment planning, digital competency for teaching, and difficulties in secondary mathematics learning. It is delivered part-time, entirely online, over six terms. Candidates must pass the TECFEE written French certification test to graduate, alongside a diagnostic French test (Epigram 2) taken in the first term. The program targets in-service teachers seeking their teaching licence through this qualifying route rather than a full undergraduate education degree.
Requirements
Minimum GPA:2.70 / 4.3
Admission Requirements: For Quebec-educated applicants: a bachelor's degree in mathematics or a related discipline, having completed at least 45 undergraduate credits relevant to secondary mathematics teaching (algebra, geometry, real analysis, statistics and probability), with a cumulative average of at least 2.7 on 4.3; a selection committee reviews the relevance and quality of academic and professional experience. Applicants must hold a current, attested teaching position in a Quebec-recognized secondary school, ideally in mathematics. For applicants educated outside Quebec: a bachelor's degree (or licence/BAC+4 under the LMD system) with a minimum average of 12/20 or equivalent, plus the same 45-credit and employment requirements; a comparative study from the Ministere de l'Immigration, de la Francisation et de l'Integration (MIFI) is required. All candidates must demonstrate French proficiency per UQAT's institutional French policy; holders of a degree from a francophone university are exempt from the French test.
