This bachelor's program prepares teachers of music for Quebec preschool, primary, and secondary schools. The 120-credit curriculum integrates musical, pedagogical, and ethical dimensions, combining music theory and jazz or popular music study with pedagogy and psychopedagogy coursework. Students complete 22 credits of supervised practicum at the primary and secondary levels. Non-music DEC holders complete three foundational music courses during their first year. Applicants may receive recognition for up to 80 credits of prior learning. Admission is offered in the fall and winter terms, and the program is completed over four years of full-time study, with some courses offered at a distance or in hybrid format. Graduates receive a Bachelor of Education (B. Ens.) qualifying them to teach music in Quebec schools.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Quebec applicants need a DEC in music or the equivalent, or another DEC combined with successful completion of an instrumental audition; applicants without a music DEC complete three foundational music courses in their first year.
