Biodiversity and Conservation is an Honours Specialization offered by the Department of Biology in Western University's Faculty of Science. The module builds on a first-year foundation in biology, chemistry, physics and calculus, then requires 10.0 courses spanning core biology topics such as genetics, cell biology and physiology alongside a biochemistry course and a statistics requirement. Upper-year study moves into ecology and population and community biology, drawing on courses covering species interactions, evolutionary processes and quantitative field and laboratory methods, with further electives chosen from areas such as animal physiology and evolutionary biology. At least 1.5 of the upper-year Biology courses must include a laboratory component. Teaching is based on Western's main campus in London, Ontario. The module suits students aiming toward careers or graduate study in ecology, wildlife biology, environmental consulting or conservation science, providing a biology-based Honours Bachelor's degree with a specific concentration in biodiversity and conservation.
