Overview
The Master of Arts in Cultural Analysis and Social Theory (CAST) at Wilfrid Laurier University is a twelve-month interdisciplinary program examining contemporary social and cultural issues through critical and social theory. Students from a range of academic backgrounds study together in a small cohort, developing advanced research and communication skills alongside coursework that draws on sociology, cultural studies, philosophy, and related humanities and social science disciplines. The program culminates in an independent research project supervised by faculty with expertise across these fields. It is delivered in person and admits students for the Fall term only. Graduates go on to further graduate study, including doctoral programs, as well as careers in research, policy, communications, and cultural or non-profit sector work that draws on critical analytical and writing skills developed through the program.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Applicants need a Bachelor of Arts (honours) degree or equivalent, with a minimum B+ average in their final year of full-time (or equivalent) study. Required documents include an Application Summary from OUAC, official transcripts dated within the past six months, a statement of intent, a resume, a scholarly writing sample of 10 to 20 pages, and two academic reference letters.
