Overview
The 167-ECTS core curriculum moves through philosophy subjects such as ontology, gnoseology, and the history of ancient, medieval, and modern philosophy into theology proper, covering fundamental and moral theology, Christology and soteriology, ecclesiology, sacramental and pastoral theology, liturgy, and church history, with a further 41 ECTS of specialisation in subjects such as the Pauline letters, the wisdom books of the Old Testament, canon law, and Christian archaeology. Fifteen ECTS of practicum, including cognitive, qualifying, and pre-thesis placements, lead into a twelve-ECTS thesis, and the diploma carries recognition from both the Lithuanian state and the Vatican. Learning outcomes include philosophically interpreting fundamental questions of human existence, interpreting the content of Christian revelation in both its historical and contemporary context, and substantiating the Church's authentic teaching across all areas of pastoral activity. Graduates also learn to prepare people of all ages for the sacraments, organise pastoral work in parishes, church organisations, and state institutions, value the part played by ecumenism and dialogue between faiths, and critically assess a country's social, cultural, and political context to support civil society's development.
