Overview
This programme trains Polish philology specialists to C1-C2 level in Polish, covering the history of the language and script, the development of Polish literature and culture, and contemporary linguistic and literary issues. Students build the ability to analyse forms of linguistic and literary expression independently and gain a thorough grounding in Polish culture, traditions and political and economic life. A fifteen-credit practice placement, available through options including translation, teaching Polish, dialect fieldwork or librarianship, runs separately from the twenty-credit Bachelor's thesis, which involves empirical linguistic or literary research. At least 165 credits make up the major field, with room to add a minor study field from the second year or further optional Polish-language courses. Seminars run with brainstorming and group discussion, and every course closes with an exam or pass/fail assessment, concluding in the BA thesis defence.
