This degree in English philology builds a foundation in linguistics and literary theory alongside English communication skills at C1-C2 level, covering phonetics, grammar, lexicology and pragmatics and comparing English with Lithuanian. Students analyse American and English-language literature more widely within a broader cultural context, and compare the culture of English-speaking countries with that of Lithuania. An internship builds basic skills in translation, research or teaching English as a foreign language, chosen from placements such as translation bureaus, publishing houses or schools. At least 165 credits sit in the major field, with a thesis, independent practice and optional courses allowing students to add a minor field or pursue a double-award teaching qualification. Teaching mixes lectures and small seminars of about sixteen students with brainstorming, group discussion and presentations, and assessment is continuous and cumulative across essays, tests and the final thesis defence.
