Program details
Overview
This AEC trains family counsellors for funeral service businesses, where they receive bereaved families, guide them through the funeral-arrangement process, and advise on burial choices. Students learn to accompany grieving clients, organize funeral rites, and develop customer-service and digital skills specific to the counsellor role. The programme includes concrete individual projects simulating funeral-sector work, plus an observation placement in a funeral home near the end of the programme. It runs 11 months over 3 sessions (555 hours), begins in the fall, and is delivered entirely online, three evenings per week plus one weekend per month. It is described by CNDF as the only such programme in Quebec giving access to funeral-counsellor roles, was revised for the fall 2026 intake, and is taught by instructors still active in the funeral sector. Graduates can have one course credited toward the Techniques de thanatologie DEC if they continue their studies in the funeral field.
