Overview
This Diplome d'etudes professionnelles (DEP) prepares students for work as firefighters, covering the protection of people and property and firefighting techniques. Training takes place over ten months at CNDF's dedicated fire-safety facilities, including a fire-station training building, an aerial ladder, a smoke house, and a confined-space maze. Students wear uniforms during coursework, prepare for a boat operator's licence, have access to supervised physical training, and take part in the FireFit competition as well as interdisciplinary simulations alongside other public-safety programmes at the college. Admission requires evaluation and classification tests, including a physical examination, in addition to meeting one of several educational eligibility routes and holding a valid Quebec driver's licence. Graduates are prepared to enter firefighter training and employment in fire and public safety services.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Applicants must hold a valid SAAQ driver's licence (regular or probationary Class 5; a learner's permit is not accepted) before training begins, and must pass evaluation and classification tests, including a physical exam. Applicants must also satisfy one of the programme's educational eligibility routes based on prior schooling, which vary according to the applicant's age.
