This Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences draws on Canadian Mennonite University's offerings across Economics, Geography, History, International Development Studies, Peace and Conflict Transformation Studies, Political Studies, Psychology, and Sociology, developing students' ability to critically analyze and synthesize material into interdisciplinary questions on citizenship, multicultural understanding, and community. Students can concentrate in Counselling Studies, Intercultural Studies, or Social Service Studies, or build a self-designed concentration around a chosen theme by combining courses from across these disciplines. The degree includes experience-based learning through practicum opportunities that connect coursework to applied social science practice. The four-year program is delivered at CMU's campus in Winnipeg, Manitoba. It suits students interested in a broad, interdisciplinary social science foundation rather than a single-department major, and prepares graduates for further study or careers spanning community, social service, and public-facing fields.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Admission is assessed against the standards of the applicant's home province. Manitoba applicants need an average of no less than 70% across English 40S (minimum 60%), a Grade 12-level mathematics course, and one further academic 40S/G/U course, plus two additional academic courses at that level; other provinces are held to comparable but distinct benchmarks, such as an average of 60% or higher across five Grade 12 academic courses with English 30-1 at a minimum 60% for Alberta, the Northwest Territories, and Nunavut, or a 70% overall average with no course below 60% and English at a minimum 65% for British Columbia, Yukon, and Ontario. Applicants can be granted conditional admission on a current transcript listing courses still in progress, with final official transcripts due, sent directly from the school or through MyCreds, once the year of study is complete. The application deadline for Fall entry is August 25.
